Our Aquarium Blend is the same granular activated carbon used by the largest manufacturer of aquariums in America. For good reason. Its unique meso-pore size distribution removes colors (tannins), dyes, odors, medication (antibiotics), dissolved organics, heavy metals, chlorine, other toxic compounds, leaving your aquarium smelling fresh and and crystal clear.
This is a granular activated carbon produced by a high temperature steam activation process under stringent quality control. It has a large surface area, high mechanical hardness, unique pore size distribution, low density and chemical stability. Recommended filter grade carbon for aquarium water purification. This is a coal-based activated carbon.
Activated charcoal removes ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, and inorganic salts (like sodium chloride) poorly. For these, other specialized resins are required.
Changing Schedule: The length of time before changing your charcoal will depend on your stocking level. A lightly stocked and lightly fed tank could go about 1 month or 2 before the carbon is changed. A heavily populated or highly fed aquarium may be best with carbon changes of every 2-4 weeks. Remember, changing out your activated charcoal is not a substitute for large and frequent water changes.
